Bicarbonate Haemodialysis Concentrates

Overview

Haemodialysis concentrate is a product intended to be mixed with water to prepare a solution with an electrolyte composition similar to that of blood, a dialysate, for the exchange of solutes with blood through a semi-permeable membrane in the dialyser of a haemodialysis system. It is intended to remove metabolic waste from the blood to help maintain physiological blood electrolyte and pH levels.

The product is supplied as dry powder, including dry acid concentrate and bicarbonate concentrate. The semipermeable membrane principle, through diffusion and convection, removes harmful and unnecessary metabolic waste and excessive electrolytes from the body, purifying the blood and correcting water-electrolyte and acid-base balance.

Intended use

The product includes salts of the following constituents: sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium, chloride, and anions of weak acids, for example bicarbonate (HCO3), acetate and citrate. After application, this device cannot be reused.

Indications

The device is indicated in the treatment of acute and chronic renal failure during the haemodialysis procedure.

Contraindication

There are no absolute contraindications for bicarbonate dialysis. The haemodialysis concentrate must be used only on the direction of a physician who has evaluated all the pertinent features of the product in relation to the individual patient.

Advantages of the B-Cartridge

Two caps come with the LundaBik cartridge, protecting the connectors during transportation. During the treatment session the caps sit on the two cap indentations on the top of the cartridge, marked A and B.
Placing the caps back on the top and bottom connectors after a treatment session avoids spillage and dripping.
Top and bottom filters prevent bicarbonate particles from exiting the cartridge.
The B-Cartridge is a sodium bicarbonate concentrate in a sealed polypropylene unit. When attached to the holder, water passes through the cartridge, producing a saturated bicarbonate solution ready for single patient use.
If rinsed clean, the cartridge is recyclable depending on your facility and local waste management provider’s acceptance of polypropylene.
Compatible with dialysis machines with three stream proportioning bicarbonate systems, set to proportion 1 part acid to 34 parts bicarbonate concentrate and water.

LundaBik

Dry Powder B-Bag 700g

The LundaBik B-Bag is a sodium bicarbonate concentrate in a sealed polyamide polyethylene (PA/PE) unit. When hung on the connector nozzle, water passes through the bag, producing a saturated bicarbonate solution ready for single patient use. The dialysis machine then mixes that solution with water and the acid concentrate to produce a bicarbonate based dialysis fluid.
